We all wish that we had more time each day to complete our to-do lists. Using a timer is a great way to increase your daily productivity and give you a sense of accomplishment. Here are a few ways you can use a timer to help you get more done each day:TIME-A-TASK: Is there a task that you really dislike doing, such as cleaning out a drawer, sorting laundry, or filing paperwork? At times, these tasks end up being moved over to our next day's to-do lists because they are not activities that we enjoy doing. One way to overcome your dislike for tackling at task is to determine exactly how long a task will take you. Try it. Set a timer when you start, and see exactly how long it takes you to finish. You may find sorting laundry only takes 10 minutes, or filing the monthly bill statements only takes 3 minutes. Knowing roughly how long a task will take makes it easier to make the time each day to get it done.
BEAT-THE-CLOCK: Do you have 30 minutes until that load of clothes dries? Choose a task you have been putting off, and instead of watching television, set the timer for 30 minutes. Determine to complete as much as you can within that 30 minute time frame. You will be amazed at what you can do when you focus your energies for a set period of time on a single task.
SET IT AND RELAX: Are you easily distracted, often run late, and need help staying on schedule? Using a kitchen timer can help you gain control over your time. Need to pick up the kids in an hour? Set your timer so you can work on a task or even relax, knowing you can focus on one thing without having to keep checking the clock. Once the alarm sounds, you know it's time to go.
